Release notes
0.1.6
- Reviewing a pull request now lists the files it deletes. Before, a deleted file was left out of the list entirely.
- Signing in with a Personal Access Token now checks the token and organization before keeping them. A mistyped organization or a wrong token gets a message saying which, and Try again brings back what you typed. Before, it was saved anyway and then reported as an expired sign-in with no way out.
- The token now needs Project and Team (Read) as well as Work Items and Code (Read & write). Choosing a project needs it.
- If the project in your settings no longer exists, the panel says so, and clicking it opens the project list instead of retrying.
- Closing the Microsoft sign-in now offers to sign in with a Personal Access Token instead.
- Store page: the Azure category, a Q&A link to the issues tracker, and a line on where the actions are (right-click). Sign out and Refresh no longer show in the Command Palette while you are signed out.
0.1.5
- One work item deleted or hidden from you between two refreshes no longer turns the whole My Work Items panel into an error; the rest still show.
- A custom query of the "work items and direct links" kind now lists each item once instead of failing.
- Create work item no longer offers the types Azure DevOps hides on its own "New work item" menu (Test Case, Shared Steps, Code Review Request and the like). Its confirmation says when the new item is not assigned to anyone, with a button to open it, since My Work Items won't list it.
- Complete keeps the merge message and "close linked work items" choices the author set with auto-complete, instead of throwing them away.
- A pull request you declined to review moves out of Needs my review, marked "you declined".
- After VS Code reloads, a pull request diff tab it restores now says to open the PR again from Boardpane, instead of showing an empty file.
- Closing the Microsoft sign-in window now changes nothing, and no longer shows "Boardpane: undefined" on older VS Code and Cursor versions.
- "Sign in again" after an expired Personal Access Token now asks for a new token, instead of sending you to a Microsoft sign-in you never used. A token pasted with a trailing space or newline now works.
- Typing the organization as a full
https://dev.azure.com/contoso address now works.
- Choosing another organization and then pressing Escape at the project list no longer leaves the new organization paired with the old project.
- A Pro licence that couldn't be confirmed for 14 days because Polar was unreachable is checked again before Boardpane asks you to buy, and if Polar is still unreachable it says so. A licence entered in one window now counts in your other open windows without a restart.
0.1.4
- New: Create branch on a work item (right-click, or the Command Palette). It makes a branch named like
123-fix-login-bug from where you are now and switches to it, using VS Code's own git. If that branch already exists it asks before switching to it, and if no git repository is open it says so and offers to copy the name instead. Free.
- Complete now asks how to merge: squash commit (first, as before), merge commit, rebase and fast-forward, or semi-linear merge.
- Complete now turns down a draft, or a pull request Azure DevOps says cannot merge (conflicts, or a failed merge), and says why, with a button to open it in the browser. When a branch policy turns the merge down (for example, it does not allow that merge type, or wants more approvals), you now see Azure DevOps' own reason instead of "your account is not allowed".
- Complete now says "Completed" only once Azure DevOps has finished the merge, and will not complete a pull request that got new commits after you opened it (open it again to review them first).
- Images and other binary files in a pull request's diff now show "Binary file, not shown" instead of a page of unreadable characters.
- When the work item list or a pull request section is cut at 100, its last row now says so and opens the full list in the browser.
- A status-bar item shows how many work items are assigned to you and how many pull requests are waiting for your review. Click it to open Boardpane. It appears once the panels have loaded, and not while you are signed out.
0.1.3
- The Pull Requests panel is now in three sections: Needs my review, Created by me, and Everything else (folded away until you open it). Your own PRs and the ones waiting on you are fetched on their own, so a busy project with more than 100 open PRs can no longer push them off the list. A PR waiting on a team you are in counts as waiting on you. Once you vote on a PR, or while it is a draft, it moves to Everything else.
- When a command fails because the network is down, it now says Boardpane could not reach Azure DevOps and to check your connection. It used to say only "Boardpane: fetch failed".
- An expired sign-in now says so in plain words, with a "Sign in again" button. A missing permission says your account is not allowed to do that and to ask an administrator, and still quotes Azure DevOps' own reason.
- The licence check gives up after 10 seconds instead of waiting forever, and a check that gives up leaves your licence exactly as it was.
- A licence key entered while you are offline is now kept and checked again the next time you use a Pro feature. It used to be thrown away with the message "fetch failed". A key that cannot be checked never replaces a licence that is already working.
- Opened in a folder whose code is hosted somewhere other than Azure DevOps, the panels now say Boardpane shows work items and pull requests from Azure DevOps, instead of only inviting you to sign in.
- A Microsoft account that belongs to no Azure DevOps organization is now told so, with a way to type an organization name or sign out. It used to be dropped into an empty box asking for an organization name.
- Opened in a folder whose git remote is on Azure DevOps, Boardpane now picks up that organization and project by itself, and offers them first when you choose a project.
- Reviewing a pull request now compares against the point the branch started from, as the web page does, so changes that landed on the target branch since no longer show up as the PR's. A renamed file now shows its old contents on the left instead of an empty page.
- Signing in with Microsoft now stays signed in: the sign-in is refreshed on every request instead of being dropped after 50 minutes, and signing out of the Microsoft account in the editor signs Boardpane out too.
- A request to Azure DevOps that hangs now gives up after 30 seconds with the network message, instead of leaving the panel spinning.
- Work item comments and descriptions keep any
< or & you typed. Text like if a < b used to arrive as "if a".
- My Work Items now lists only the chosen project's items. It used to list your items from every project in the organization while opening, commenting and changing state as if they were all in the chosen one. A query you have customised is left as you wrote it.
- Cancelling the Personal Access Token box no longer switches the organization Boardpane is using.
- An unexpected answer from the licence server (one that does not say which product the key is for) no longer switches Pro off; it is treated like being offline.
- Screen readers now hear whether you approved or rejected a pull request, not just its title.
- "Create work item" asks you to choose an organization and project before it asks about Pro, so nobody is asked to pay and then told there is nowhere to put the work item.
0.1.2
- A pull request with more than 500 changed files now says so above the file list, instead of showing the first 500 as if they were the whole thing.
- Fixed: "Create work item" offered to sell you Pro before it ever offered to sign you in. It asks you to sign in first now.
- Fixed: "Choose organization and project" failed while signed out with the bare words "Not signed in" and no way forward. It now offers both sign-in routes.
- Fixed: "Sign out" while already signed out did nothing at all. It now says you are not signed in, and says "signed out" when it does sign you out.
- The Pull Requests panel now offers the Personal Access Token route too, for anyone whose organization blocks Microsoft sign-in.
- Fixed: "Choose organization and project" asked you to pick your organization and project twice in a row when it had just signed you in.
- Pro no longer switches itself off if something between you and the licence server answers with a page of its own. Only the licence server's real answer counts.
- The store description now names the two editors Boardpane has actually been run in: VS Code and Cursor.
0.1.1
- Fixed: after restarting the editor, someone signed in with a Personal Access Token was shown the sign-in buttons again although they were still signed in.
- Fixed: after switching account or organisation, Boardpane could still be using the previous identity — so "your vote" on a pull request matched the wrong person, and Approve could be recorded against the wrong account.
- Fixed: opening a pull request diff with an expired sign-in showed Azure DevOps's sign-in web page as the contents of the file. It now asks you to sign in again.
- Fixed: "Sign in with Microsoft" could never reach your list of organisations. Boardpane asked Azure DevOps for your profile at an address the service does not serve, so the sign-in always ended in an error and a Personal Access Token was the only way in.
- Fixed: if Polar (the licence checker) answered with anything unexpected, Pro could switch itself off for someone who had paid. Only a clear "that key does not exist" can do that now.
0.1.0
- First release: My Work Items and Pull Requests in the sidebar, sign in with Microsoft or a Personal Access Token, change state, comment, copy a branch name, open in browser.
- Pro: create work items, and review pull requests with a per-file diff and approve / reject / complete.
